Since the only thing pandas eat is bamboo, what makes them so large?

Like most vegetarian animals they must spend the majority of there time eating in order to survive, including elephants or dinosaurs. The size thing in most cases is more todo with a survival mechanism than anything. The reason that vegetarian (herbivore) dinosaurs grew as large as they did was to protect them from equally large meat eating (carnivore) dinos. Elephants grew that big to protect them from lions etc and I dare say the same can be said for pandas. My best guess they are that big (don't forget there razor sharp claws either!) to protect themselves from predators or as a throw back as part of there evolutions because they evolved from bears or more correctly they ARE a bear.

Your very welcome, something that just occured they also aren't only veg eaters they also eat meat, I believe.

Are you kidding? Alot of the worlds largest animals are vegetarians. Giraffes, elephants, rhinos, etc...
